Khorramshahr – Naft Tehran claimed their first ever Hazfi Cup title with a 1-0 victory over Tractor Sazi on 11 May. The only goal of the match came in the 88th minute by way of a header from Sajjad Shahbazzadeh off a free kick taken by Andranik Teymourian.
Tractor Sazi had the perfect opportunity to take the lead in the first half when the Tabriz based club was awarded a penalty. Captain Mohammad Iranpourian – known as a penalty kick expert – missed from the penalty spot in the 27th minute when his kick was stopped by Naft keeper Milad Farahani.
Shahbazzadeh – who played for Esteghlal Tehran last year – signed with Turkish Super League club Alanyaspor before the start of the 2016-17 football year but scored one goal in only four appearances.
The forward from Ardabil transferred to Naft Tehran during the winter break and rarely saw the field under head coach Ali Daei but Shahbazzadeh definitely finished the football year on a high note to help Naft Tehran win their first ever Hazfi Cup.
