Heerenveen – Iranian striker Reza Ghoochannejhad and SC Heerenveen finally earned their first win of the 2016-17 Eredivisie season in a home fixture against PEC Zwolle on 27 August.
The lone goal of the match was scored by Swedish forward Sam Larsson five minutes into the second half when the PEC Zwolle defenders were unable to clear the ball to safety. Larsson pounced onto the loose ball and fired a shot into the upper corner to beat keeper Mickey van der Hart.
Head coach of Heerenveen, Jurgen Streppel definitely had to be relieved that his side were able to earn their first win of the season in a what seemed like a physical match.
Heerenveen were the better side as they out shot PEC Zwolle seven to two and held the majority of possession. The visitors from Zwolle looked to be more comfortable playing the man instead of the ball as they were whistled for eighteen fouls but only two players went into the book.
Ghoochannejhad played eighty-eight minutes and was subbed off for Henk Veerman.
The Iranian striker has been called into action by TM head coach Carlos Queiroz for it’s upcoming qualifiers against Qatar on 1 September and at China on 6 September.
Heerenveen will face FC Twente at home on 10 September after the international break.
