Iranian-Swedish midfielder Saman Ghoddos recently made headlines by scoring a goal and providing an assist when Swedish club Ostersund defeated Turkish giants Galatasaray 2-0 in a Europa League Qualifier on 13 July.
The return leg in Istanbul finished in a 1-1 draw and Ostersund advanced by winning 3-1 on aggregate.
Next up for Ostersund is Fola Esch of Luxembourg. I think it is safe to say that Ostersund got a favorable draw and should have no problem progressing to the next stage.
Saman Ghoddos has already featured two times for Sweden in friendly matches and also scored a goal against Slovakia.
Team Melli fans surely remember another Iranian-Swedish footballer named Behrang Safari who currently plays for Malmo. Safari was called up to the Swedish national team for Euro 2012 and had a successful stint from 2008 to 2013.
I bet there are TM fans that would like to see Ghoddos suit up one day for Iran but who knows what Ghoddos is thinking.
Even though Ghoddos has been capped twice for Sweden, he is still eligible to play for Iran because he has yet to play in a competitive fixture.
Ghoddos has the choice to play for whichever team he wants to play for but I think he can be swayed if he only gets called up for friendly matches.
Either way good luck to Saman and Ostersund in Europa League Qualifying!
Ostersund host the first leg on 27 July and the return leg will be played in Luxembourg on 3 August.
