Rostov – FC Rostov earned their first ever victory in UEFA Champions League against German giants Bayern Munich on 23 November.
Brazilian midfielder Douglas Costa gave Bayern a 1-0 lead thirty-five minutes into the first half when he pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area.
Nine minutes later a pass by Costa intended for center back Jerome Boateng became trouble as forward Dmitry Poloz took possession and provided a pass to Sardar Azmoun.
The Iranian striker calmly faked a shot with his left foot inside the penalty area to evade Boateng and finished it off perfectly with his right foot by curling the ball around keeper Sven Ulreich to level the score at 1-1 right before the interval.
Four minutes into the second half Rostov were awarded a penalty kick when Ecuadorian midfielder Christian Noboa was taken down in the penalty area by Boateng.
Dmitry Poloz converted the kick from the spot as Ulreich guessed wrong. The fans inside Olimp-2 Stadium erupted as Rostov took a 2-1 lead.
Two minutes later Bayern Munich leveled the score at 2-2 when Spanish defender Juan Bernat received a pass from Frank Ribery and fired the ball into the roof of the net past Soslan Dzhanayev.
In the 67th minute Rostov were awarded a free kick and Christian Noboa curved the ball over the Bayern wall to put Rostov back in the lead at 3-2.
The Rostov fans and supporters were delighted at the final whistle as they earned their first ever victory in Champions League competition.
In the other group match, Atletico Madrid defeated PSV Eindhoven 2-0 in Spain.
Rostov are already out of contention for a spot in the second round of Champions League but a win or draw against PSV Eindhoven away from home on 3 December will ensure a spot in the Europa League knockout stage.
