Moscow – Back from the international break, Iranian footballers in the Russian Premier League were looking to help their teams earn victories but it appears the scoreless world cup qualifier in Malaysia between Syria and Iran had a negative effect on Rostov and Terek Grozny.
Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun – suspended for the clash against Syria – featured for seventy-five minutes before being subbed off. FC Rostov were held to a scoreless draw away from home against Rubin Kazan on 18 November, Azmoun’s former team. Midfielder Saeid Ezatolahi did not make an appearance for Rostov.
On 21 November Terek Grozny were unable to break the deadlock at home against Tom Tomsk. Iranian left back Milad Mohammadi featured the full ninety minutes at Akhmat Arena and continues to be in top form for the Chechen side.
Terek Grozny are currently fourth in the RPL with twenty-five points and will host Spartak Moscow on 26 November.
FC Rostov are sixth in the table with twenty-one points and have a busy week ahead of them that starts first with hosting German giants Bayern Munich in Group D of UEFA Champions League on 23 November and will finish off the week when they host Anzhi Makhachkala on 27 November.
