Grozny – FC Rostov finished off the 2015-16 season with a 2-0 victory on the road against Terek Grozny.
Ecuadorian midfielder Christian Noboa scored in the 30th minute to give Rostov a 1-0 lead. Aleksandr Yerokhin extended Rostov’s lead to 2-0 five minutes into the second half.
Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun was unable to continue his goal scoring streak as he substituted off in the 69th minute.
The Rostov players knew they did not control their own destiny heading into the final match day of the season. They needed CSKA Moscow to lose or tie but CSKA defeated Rubin Kazan on the road 1-0 with the lone goal coming from Russian midfielder Alan Dzagoev in the 19th minute.
Naturally it was disappointing for Rostov to be so close to the Russian Premier League Title but they surprised all of Russia by finishing second in the table with sixty-three points and a qualification spot to the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League.
Congratulations to FC Rostov for a fantastic season!
