Athens – After weeks of delay due to fears of violence, the Greek Super League finally began on 10 September. A brace from Taxiarchis Fountas was more than enough to help Panionios begin the new season on the positive.
Panionios led 1-0 at the half against Asteras Tripoli thanks to a goal from Taxiarchis Fountas in the 24th minute.
Iranian footballers Karim Ansarifard and Masoud Shojaei were in the starting lineup with the latter making his debut appearance for the Athens based club.
Ansarifard missed a penalty kick in the 15th minute but amends for his mistake when he scored six minutes into the second half to give Panionios a 2-0 lead.
Fountas added his second of the match six minutes later as Panionios easily held on for a 3-0 win over Asteras Tripoli.
