Tehran – Naft Tehran – led by Ali Daei – took on Zob Ahan of Isfahan in an entertaining match on 20 October in week nine of the Iranian Pro League.
Morteza Tabrizi put Zob Ahan on the board with his header off a cross in the 20th minute.
Meanwhile, Zob Ahan keeper Mohammad Rashid Mazaheri was called into action to make saves and keep his side in front throughout the match.
The visitors from Isfahan carried a 1-0 lead into the interval.
Naft kept pushing forward in search of an equalizer and were awarded a penalty kick in the 87th minute. Forward Mohammadi Ghazi converted the kick with a left footed shot that sent the ball into the roof of the net past Mazaheri to tie up the score 1-1.
The home side would have been content with sharing the spoils but two minutes later a poorly defended cross from the right was headed into the net by Ghazi to give his side a 2-1 lead.
Ghazi was mobbed by his teammates in celebration as Naft Tehran picked up three huge points and now sit third in the table with fifteen points.
Ali Daei and Naft Tehran will look to build on the victory when they face FC Mashhad away from home on 28 October.
