Utrecht – An entertaining match took place between FC Utrecht and AZ Alkmaar in the third week of the Eredivisie. AZ Alkmaar were looking to rebound from their loss last week at PSV Eindhoven.
Norwegian forward Markus Henriksen out AZ Alkmaar on the board in the 25th minute when he very calmly faked out American forward Rubio Rubin to get into the penalty area and blast a right footed shot past keeper Robbin Ruiter.
Patrick Joosten scored the equalizer for FC Utrecht with a magnificent shot from outside the penalty area that seemed to curve around AZ keeper Sergio Rochet in the 53rd minute.
Six minutes remained in the match when Alireza Jahanbakhsh fired a left footed shot from outside the penalty area that was deflected and eventually bounced off the far post and into the net to give AZ Alkmaar a huge 2-1 victory.
AZ earned their first win of the season and will face NEC Nijmegen at home on 28 August.
In other Eredivisie news, Reza Ghoochannejhad featured for Heerenveen for the full ninety minutes in a 2-1 loss at Nijmegen. Heerenveen have yet to win a match this season and will host PEC Zwolle on 27 August.
