Thessaloniki – Panionios scored a huge 2-1 road victory against Iraklis on 1 October in the Greek Super League.
Iranian footballers Masoud Shojaei and Karim Ansarifard led the way with a goal each and they also got their names in the book as twelve yellow cards and two red cards were handed out in a physical match at Kaftanzoglio Stadium.
Midfielder Masoud Shojaei put Panionios in front in the 34th minute with his second goal of the season.
Panionios held onto a 1-0 lead in a tight match during the second half as Shojaei was booked three minutes before the hour mark.
In the 78th minute striker Karim Ansarifard added his second goal of the season to extend Panionios’ lead to 2-0 and received a yellow card two minutes later.
Brazilian midfielder Leozinho pulled one back for Iraklis seven minutes later to set the stage for a nerve wracking finish where seven yellow cards and two red cards were handed during the final five minutes and stoppage time.
Comorian striker Ben Nabouhane – currently on load from Olympiacos – was given his marching orders in the 90th minute for Panionios while Giannis Loukinas was dismissed for Iraklis.
Panionios currently have nine points through four matches played and will host Olympiacos on 15 October.
