Moscow – FC Rostov defeated Dinamo Moscow 3-1 on 12 May to keep pace with CSKA Moscow in the Russian Premier League.
Montenegrin striker Fatos Beciraj put Dinamo Moscow in front after seventeen minutes with an improbable goal. Beciraj went after a through ball that didn’t seem very threatening but Beciraj managed to maneuver around center-back Cesar Navas and put his shot past keeper Soslan Dzhanayev.
Twenty three minutes later Sardar Azmoun leveled the score at 1-1. Midfielder Aleksandr Yerovkhin’s shot from outside the penalty area was deflected by defender Christopher Samba and went from Fyodor Kudryashov to Azmoun. The Iranian striker was in the right place at the right time and put the ball in the net with ease.
Five minutes into the second half, Azmoun scored his second goal of the game when he received a long ball from Ecuadorian midfielder Christian Noboa.
Congolese defender Christopher Samba wasn’t lined up with the rest of his defenders and Azmoun took advantage by positioning himself to receive the pass knowing he would not be in an offside position. Azmoun chested down the pass, carried the ball, beautifully chipped it around Samba into the penalty area, and fired it past helpless keeper Vladimir Gabulov.
Dinamo defender Christopher Samba looked as if he was complaining to the referee after the goal. But realistically, he suffered third-degree burns from the move put on him by Sardar Azmoun. The kid from Gonbad Kavus has scored in four consecutive matches for Rostov. It’s official: Sardar Azmoun is on fire!
Fourteen minutes later Fyodor Kudryashov made the score 3-1 when he headed in a cross from Pavel Mogilevets.
Rostov currently have fifty-seven points and trail CSKA Moscow by two points for the top spot in the Russian Premier League. Two match days remain as Rostov will face Ural at home on 16 May while CSKA Moscow will entertain FC Krasnodar in the nation’s capital.
