Earlier this summer former Tractor Sazi defender Khaled Shafiei became the first Iranian footballer to join the Korean League and now winger/striker Shahab Zahedi has become the first Iranian player to join the top flight of Icelandic football.
Zahedi – former member of Persepolis and Machine Sazi – has signed a contract with Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (IBV).
There are twelve teams in the Úrvalsdeild and IBV are currently in the eleventh position. Each team plays a total of twenty-two matches and the bottom two teams are relegated.
IBV will face Fjolnir away from home on 23 July.
Good luck to Shahab Zahedi and in the meantime, check out the awesome scenery of where Zahedi will be playing his home matches!
