Zwolle – AZ Alkmaar continued their excellent form with a fourth consecutive victory in Eredivisie over PEC Zwolle on 18 September.
Striker Wout Weghorst put AZ in the lead with his second goal of the season two minutes before the end of the first half. Joris van Overeem provided the assist to Weghorst to give AZ a 1-0 lead going into the break.
Goal scorer Weghorst became provider late in the match when his nice pass led to a goal scored by eighteen-year-old midfielder Guus Til in the 87th minute. Til scored his first goal of the season in his Eredivisie debut after coming on for Joris van Overeem sixteen minutes earlier.
AZ easily held on for the 2-0 victory over PEC Zwolle.
Earlier this week AZ Alkmaar hosted Irish Premier League Champions Dundalk in the first match of Europa League group play.
Belgian midfielder Stijn Wuytens gave AZ the lead right at the hour mark. AZ were close to holding onto the victory but a late strike in the 89th minute by Ciaran Kilduff spoiled the night for AZ Alkmaar as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Back to Eredivisie, AZ will host Go Ahead Eagles on 24 September. AZ Alkmaar currently sit in the fourth position with thirteen points after six matches played.
