Doha – Iranian Pro League winners Persepolis advanced to the Asian Champions League Quarter-finals after defeating Qatari club Lekhwiya 1-0 on 30 May.
The only goal of the match took place in the 24th minute when Persepolis striker Mehdi Taremi centered a pass in the penalty area that was put in by Lewkhwiya defender Chico for an own-goal.
The Spanish center back did his best to break up Taremi’s dangerous pass but instead the ball went into his own net. The first leg between the two teams finished in a scoreless draw in Tehran one week ago and therefore the lone goal in Doha was all Persepolis needed to eliminate Lekhwiya.
Persepolis are the only Iranian team left in Asian Champions League due to Emirati club Al-Ain defeating Esteghlal Tehran 6-2 on aggregate and Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal seeing off Esteghlal Khuzestan 4-2 on aggregate.
