Emmen – An 8-2 win on aggregate for Almere City has ensured that they will face either Willem II or Excelsior from the top Dutch Eredivisie in the Second Round of the Promotion/Relegation Play-offs.
Entering this match, Almere City carried a comfortable 4-1 lead on aggregate after winning convincingly last week in front of their home supporters. Iranian keeper Agil Etemadi was hoping for a repeat performance on the road against Emmen.
FC Emmen took a 1-0 lead after nine minutes through Aruban forward Erixon Danso. The score remained the same at the half and it looked as if maybe Emmen would be able to close the gap on the aggregate score line.
Yet any hopes of making the game interesting for Emmen disappeared in the 54th minute when defender Tim Seikman received his second yellow card of the match and was sent off.
Captain Jason Oost of Almere City scored a hat trick in twenty minutes to give Almere City a commanding 3-1 lead. Midfielder Soufyan Ahannach added one more in the 83rd minute to give Almere a 4-1 victory and an 8-2 win on aggregate.
Goalkeeper Agil Etemadi and Almere City are looking to build on their two victories over Emmen in their quest for promotion to the Eredivisie.
