Ahvaz, Iran – One week after Persepolis defeated rivals Esteghlal in the Tehran Derby, they had to take on Esteghlal Ahvaz away from home.
Skeptics were wondering if Esteghlal Ahvaz would have been able to spoil Persepolis’ run at the IPL title but a brace from Honduran forward Jerry Bengston gave Persepolis an important 2-0 victory to continue on top of the IPL Table with fifty-one points.
Bengston scored in the 56th minute and in the 86th minute to give his side the three points while Esteghlal Ahvaz were officially relegated from the Iranian Pro League.
Esteghlal Tehran kept pace with a 3-0 win over Foolad Khuzestan and are in second with forty-eight points. Meanwhile, Esteghlal Khuzestan also have forty-eight points but are in third due to goal difference.
Esteghlal Khuzestan hurt their chances of trying to chase the IPL title after a scoreless draw away to Gostaresh Foolad.
