On 16 April, Iranian defender Milad Mohammadi made his first start for Terek Grozny  in a 1-0 home loss against FC Krasnodar. Mohammadi was subbed out after eighty-three minutes.

The lone goal of the match was scored by Fedor Smolov in the 44th minute. Terek Grozny are currently in 6th place in the Russian Premier League.

On 17 April, FC Rostov defeated Kuban Krasnodar on the road 1-0 with a goal coming from captain Alexandru Gatcan. Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun started and was substituted out after sixty-nine minutes.

Rostov have overtaken CSKA Moscow with the top spot in the Russian Premier League with forty-eight points due to CSKA tying Lokomotiv Moscow 1-1 on 16 April. CSKA Moscow trail Rostov by one point with six more matches to be played by each team.
