Persepolis book spot in ACL Final!

It was a suspenseful night. But in the end, Persepolis held on for a 1-1 draw with Al-Sadd at Azadi Stadium to win 2-1 on aggregate in the 2018 Asian Champions League semifinals.

Al-Sadd took the lead in the first half through Baghdad Bounedjah.

Persepolis equalized early in the second half when Siamak Nemati finished off a cross from Godwin Mensha.

Al-Sadd furiously looked for the equalizer and the feeling was tense the remainder of the match because a goal for the Qatari club would have put them into the final on away goals.

Goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand already made a name for himself at the 2018 World Cup when he denied Ronaldo from the penalty spot and on this night he brilliantly stopped a header from Spanish midfielder Xavi in the 86th minute.

Persepolis will face either Japanese club Kashima Antlers or Suwon Samsung Bluewings of South Korea.

The first leg will be played on 3 November in East Asia and the return leg will take place at Azadi Stadium on 10 November.
