Doha – World Cup 2018 Qualifying continued on 23 March as visitors Iran secured a huge 1-0 victory against Qatar.
After a scoreless first half, Iran took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute as Mehdi Taremi beat the Qatari offside trap when he received a pass from Karim Ansarifard and put the ball past keeper Saad Al Sheeb.
Whether it be the Iranian Pro League, Asian Champions League, or World Cup Qualifying, Mehdi Taremi continues to find the back of the net.
Taremi wasn’t the man of the match but the forward from Bushehr who made a name for himself playing for Iranjavan continues to impress by finding himself in the right place at the right time.
Team Melli had more opportunities to extend the lead through Sardar Azmoun and Ehsan Hajsafi but both squandered their chances.
Qatari striker Sebastian Soria had an excellent opportunity level the score in stoppage time but he placed his shot straight at Iranian keeper Alireza Beiranvand.
Iranian fans, coaches, and supporters were delighted at the final whistle because of the victory but also because South Korea and Uzbekistan were defeated earlier in the day.
Iran now sit top of Group A with fourteen points and will host China in a must-win game at Azadi Stadium in Tehran on 28 March.
Another victory for Iran will definitely get them closer and closer to Russia.
