Alkmaar – Visitors Heerenveen were in town to face AZ Alkmaar in an Eredivisie match that featured two members of the National Team of Iran: midfielder Alireza Jahanbakhsh of AZ Alkmaar and striker Reza Ghoochannejhad AKA Gucci of Heerenveen.

The home side got on the board first when Markus Henriksen finished off a pass from Alireza Jahanbakhsh in the 33rd minute.

Jahanbakhsh made a nice run and got a hold of a long ball and was soon challenged by Heerenveen keeper Erwin Mulder but Jahanbakhsh quickly laid off the pass and Henriksen got enough on it to get it past the goal line.

Swedish midfielder Arber Zeneli equalised for Heerenveen seven minutes later as both teams went into the interval tied 1-1.

Forward Wout Weghorst converted a penalty kick seven minutes into the second half to put AZ back on top 2-1.

Second half substitute Willem Huizing of Heerenveen earned himself two yellow cards despite being on the field for only seven minutes in a physical second half.

Heerenveen were at a disadvantage having to play the last nineteen minutes of the match with ten men but captain Stijn Schaars came to the rescue and equalized in the 82nd minute to level the score at 2-2.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh played the full ninety minutes while Reza Ghoochannejhad was subbed out for Heerenveen in the 76th minute.

Heerenveen can definitely be happy with picking up a hard earned point on the road while AZ Alkmaar can’t be happy with squandering a 2-1 lead while despite having a one man advantage.
