Tehran – The struggle to stay in the Iranian Pro League continues for Siah Jamegan as they were unable to hold on for a victory at Azadi Stadium against Esteghlal on 4 March.

When talking Iranian football, the Mashhad based club did well in leaving Tehran with a draw but at this point of the season victories are much more helpful if Siah Jamegan want to avoid relegation.

French-Serbian striker Goran Jerkovic gave Siah Jamegan the lead right before the end of the first half when he received a pass from Hossein Badamaki and perfectly put the ball between the legs of keeper Hossein Hosseini.*

Jerkovic played for Esteghlal back in 2012 and so far he has been a bright spot for Siah Jamegan.

“It was a great feeling to score but it was also emotional for me because Azadi was once my home in Iran,” said Jerkovic.

In the second half Esteghlal found the equalizer when Omid Ebrahimi scored from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.

A victory would have been perfect for Siah Jamegan and now they find themselves in the second to last relegation spot seven points behind Sanat Naft Abadan.

The job won’t get any easier when they host Sepahan on 10 March but maybe Jerkovic can continue to be the spark that Siah Jamegan desperately needs to stay in the Persian Gulf Pro League.

*Esteghlal keeper Mehdi Rahmati did not play due to suspension.
