The knockout phase for UEFA Europa League began on 16 February and three TM footballers were in action.

In Russia, Rostov easily defeated Sparta Praha 4-0 of Czech Republic. Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun did not start in this match but scored one minute after coming on for Aleksandr Bukharov. Miha Mevlja, Dmitry Poloz, and Christian Noboa did the damage in the first half as Rostov had a commanding 3-0 lead at the interval. Tiemoko Konate of Sparta Praha was sent off in the 32nd minute after receiving two yellow cards.

In the Netherlands, AZ Alkmaar hosted Olympique Lyon of France and were throttled 4-1 but Iranian winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute. AZ have a tough task ahead of them if they want to stay alive in Europa League.

In Greece, Olympiacos and Turkish side Osmanlispor FK played out a scoreless draw. Iranian forward Karim Ansarifard came on in the 87th minute for Andre Martins.
